Looking at the History of French Wine
Of all the various and different types of wines on the market, probably the most popular would seem to be French wine. The reason for this is that French wine is famous for its exquisite taste and its unique flavor. There is good reason for the greatness of French wine.
Those who make it have had a great deal of time to perfect it. In fact, the art, science and development of French wine have occurred over many centuries. It is commonly believed that the French first started developing their brands of wine in the sixth century B.C. when the Gauls established a number of monasteries which would soon become famous for their ability to create amazing tasting wine.
The Export of the Wine
Believe it or not, although the tradition of making French wine started six hundred years before the birth of Christ the wine was consumed in local French regions and not made available for exports until well into the 19th century. In fact, it would not be until 1850 that the exports of French wines became commonplace. Whoever came up with the notion of selling French wine abroad was an absolute genius and established an export for the country that has grossed many hundreds of billions of dollars over the years and has contributed greatly to the French economy.
Pop Culture Plays a Role in the Popularity
Part of the reason for the popularity of French wine is the fact that it is often "propped up" in movies and television programs as being the best wine on the market. Whether this is fair or not to other countries is a contentious issue, but the fact remains that France has greatly benefited from the impression that has been left in people's minds thanks to the various pop culture mediums that have inadvertently supported French winemaking.
Quality Counts
Keep one thing in mind, no matter how deep or rich the history of French wine nor how much it may be peripherally promoted in the world of pop culture the wine would never be as popular as it is if it was not of a high level of quality. The wines made in France are among the best wines in the world and their sales on an international level prove this as does their popularity over many centuries. So, it goes without saying that French wine deserves its popularity thanks to its merits.
